Finally, justice was served, and twittering was given back to the original source – the birds! Latvian conceptual artist and creative director Voldemars Dudums created a system for birds to type Twitter status updates: all he needed was a three-euro keyboard and some unsalted fat, attached to the keys with stainless steel screws. By eating off the fat, the birds would hit the keys with their beaks and post online!

The birds, mostly tomtits, seem to appreciate the idea as well, as this innovative bird feeder gives them a stable source of food in winter. The installation itself isn’t affected by cold, either, and is said to work flawlessly at 20 C degrees below zero. @hungrybirdsnews. No wonder this Dudum’s idea won the people’s choice awards for Guerrilla Innovation in Advertising!

Mind-blowing Anamorphic Illusions by Brasspup

Mind-blowing Anamorphic Illusions by Brasspup

After seeing lots of anamorphic illusions (see here, here and here) you get really bored about this whole thing. Yesterday, however, a friend of mine showed me a video titled “Amazing Anamorphic Illusions” that just blew my mind. A master of such illusions, going by the Brusspup nickname, posted this video just two days ago and it already has more than 2 millions views.

It shows three different anamorphic illusions – a Rubik’s cube, a shoe, and a tape roll. The trick of anamorphism is seeing the object from just the right angle, in which case it will seem perfectly normal and clear. Once you move, the image gets distorted, and leaves you wondering – what the heck did just happen?

The best part is that Brasspup also gives you downloadable files of shoe. You can print them out on 8.5 x 14″ (or A4) paper and do the same trick yourself!

21 Heart Touching Dear Photographs

21 Heart Touching Dear Photographs

What started off as a small blog with just 6 family pictures based on a principle of matching an old photo with the present day setting, has now turned into highly successful site of digital nostalgia with hundreds of submissions from all over the world.

The idea about the project came to a 22-year-old Ontario-based Taylor Jones completely by accident. He was going through his parents’ old pictures and in one of the photos he saw his brother, sitting on the same kitchen table like Taylor was then. Taylor held the photo up in front of the table and took a new picture – in only 6 weeks, the response to this idea worldwide was overwhelming, with millions views and hundreds of submissions on Taylor’s site.

One year later, Taylor took the idea offline, and released a book. Here are some of our favorite and most heart touching dear photograph picks.

Dear Photograph, It was only 2 years ago, while gardening with my family and children at the St. Mary Organic Farm, that my son Alex, age 2, ran up to this tree and hugged it. I quickly snapped a photo, thinking to myself, ”awww… he’s a tree hugger”. Then, just like that, he leaned in and gave the tree a gentle kiss. Three days later, on September 17th, 2010, Alex died unexpectedly in his sleep. Now when I look at this photograph, and look into his eyes, I see he is hugging the tree just like he would hug his mother’s or father’s leg whenever he ran to greet us. With his little arms wrapped tightly around the tree, he seemed to be listening in a very comforting and knowing way. This image of Alex is what I referred to immediately after his death and it has given me the solace to know in my heart that he is exactly where he is supposed to be. Valerie

Dear Photograph, Oh, to be young again. Wizemark

Dear Photograph, It was 70 years ago when my mother dipped her toes in Lake Cavloc, Switzerland along side her father and sister. Beauty was all around them and so were the echoes of youth. My mother’s view has changed now that she lives in a nursing home. Wouldn’t it have been something if the waters they had danced in had washed the fountain of youth over them… Peter

Dear Photograph, I was astounded, but I hadn’t had time to consider what I was seeing. Mark Yokoyama

China’s Goverment Paves a Highway Arround Stubborn Homeowners

China’s Goverment Paves a Highway Arround Stubborn Homeowners

In order to build a new road, the Chinese government had to move a village of over 1000 people – two, however, said they would stay till the bitter end and didn’t leave. It wouldn’t be a big deal, only now their house stands alone in the middle of a new motorway of Xiayangzhang village in the province of Zhejiang. The phenomenon of a lone house that wasn’t torn down due to the constructions is called a “nail house” in China, referring to the image of an ingrown nail that’s painful and almost unable to remove.

Luo Baogen and his wife, the only residents of the five-storey block of flats, explain that they won’t move because the compensation the government offers is not sufficient. The farmer says he would move if the government offered enough for him to rebuilt a house elsewhere, but the standing offer of 260,000 yuan (US$41,573) won’t cover the costs. The road, leading to the Wenling Railway Station, hasn’t been opened yet, but with adequate supply of electricity and water, the farmer family seems pretty confident about their decision.

Home sweet home indeed!
